It’s getting harder each day
to live in a world
where you have to barricade your door
and deep inside the temptation comes
to give everything up and
go back where I was before

For where fear knocks its haunting news
no one wants to know
where violence knives its cry
no one wants to hear

Yet you tell me: “Do not be afraid
of those who can kill the body yet
cannot kill the soul

Every hair on your head
has been counted
Can’t you buy two sparrows
for a penny in the market?

So I go out in the morning
starting every day new going upstream
against the current,
always finding new strength
in your words that I say
over and over again inside.

your love will disperse its power
